Senator Emanuel Jones, a Democrat, was first elected to the Georgia Senate from Georgia's 10th District in 2004. Senator Jones represents Southwest DeKalb and Henry County. He is the current Chairman of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Advisory Council and formerly served as Chairman of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus for two consecutive legislative sessions.

State Representative Dar’shun Kendrick represents the citizens House District 93, which includes East DeKalb and South Gwinnett. She was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 2010 as the second-youngest member of the state legislature at the age of 27.

Bill Mitchell was overwhelmingly elected to his first term on the City Council of the historic City of Stone Mountain in 1995 and was then unanimously selected by his colleagues to serve as mayor pro tem (vice mayor). He also served as chairman of the Finance Committee, where he led the City to "outstanding financial status," as reported by independent auditors. He held the distinction of having sponsored more legislation than any other then present council member, including the legislation permitting the City’s erection of the "Freedom Bell" commemorating Martin Luther King, Jr.’s exhortation to "let freedom ring, even from Stone Mountain of Georgia!" in his immortal "I Have a Dream" speech.

Sen. Parent is the Vice Chair of the Special Judiciary Committee and a member of the Education and Youth, Judiciary and Rules Committees. She has also been appointed to serve on the Georgia Code Revision Commission, the Georgia Public Defender Standards Council, and the Public Defender Council Legislative Oversight Committee.
